Inaugural Minny Twinkies Post pt. 1
July 8th, 2009 | by Brandon Peterson |Hey folks, writing my first post for this site. It won’t be much as it will be part 1 and part 2. I have the good fortune of being able to attend tonight’s game against the Bronx Bombers. It was supposed to be Glen Perkins (4-4) going for the Twinkies tonight but he’s running a fever so he was scratched for rookie Anthony Swarzak (2-2). He will be put against a very good righty in A.J. Burnett (7-4).
Swarzak has thrown 3 respectable games and 2 that were disappointing at best. He holds onto a 3.90 ERA though and he threw a shutout through 7 innings in his last start on June 13th against the Cubs.
Burnett also has been shaky throughout the season, but has come on as of late. His ERA has lowered in each of his last 4 starts and he currently has an ERA of 3.83. With the Twins lineup being left-handed heavy, you’d expect they’d be excited to face a right-hander. I’m not so sure. so far this year, Burnett has a 3.00 ERA against lefties and a hefty 4.91 ERA against righties. It’s an anomaly, though, and over time it will turn the other way and even out.
Well, I’ll be back later on tonight with some thoughts on what I was able to see and hopefully a picture or two.
